Help Required with a "there I fixed it" project
Some lovely person has lent Hector hockey shirts for the spring season. (Short, cheap season, shirts are not part of the deal but each player is required to have two, most players will have shirts from the last, main season)
Long story short, I need to get his name on the shirts. In the regular season, they provide printed iron-on/sew on name patches. I need to cover the ones from the previous player with ours, in a sort of non permanent way. Without spending a fortune. Or anything, if possible ![]() So, I have parachute material that is roughly the right color for the patch to sew on, and cheap white duct tape for the lettering. I'm guesing the material is Nylon. The duct tape is working "OK". Won't survive a wash, but we can probably get through the season without washing it (trust me, he's skinny, doesn't sweat and id he did it wouldn't make it through his pads...) I'd like the duct tape to work better. If I placed the parachute material name plate with the duct tape letters face down, covered it with a thin piece of cotton fabric and ironed on a low heat..... ...would it fix the duct tape letters more firmly to the parachute material, or would it make an almighty melted mess and produse fumes to induce my worst asthma attack ever?

Oh hell, write his name on some other piece of material with a permanent marker or paint. Sew it on and rip it off when the season is over.
Then again, lemme sleep on it.

I'm pretty sure warming the duct tape will make it stick less well. I'm with classic, I'd go with a cheap little bottle of fabric paint.

Try fabric - a pretty stiff (but not too thick) sort- cut into letters and use fabric glue or stitch witchery to adhere it to the parachute material. Not as quick as tape, but doable.

yup, sew it on and rip it off is the plan. But really, he's 11, it needs to look like the other kids' names. The people who lent us the shirts -bless them- had taped over the name and written ours in sharpie on it. It looked awful, you could see the old name through, but I love them for trying. And for lending us the shirts. I am, however , very crafty, so I've mimicked the correct font. It will look just the smae as everyone else's ...as long as it doesn't fall offf....

well, I could use white parachute material, but it really just doesn't stick well and I'm sure as hell not sewing them on. I don't have any specific fabric glue -is that a reasonably cheap and especially wonderful item? Does it work with parachute material?

Stitch witchery is a tape that glues material to material when you apply heat to it. Its a really quick way to hem pants for instance. I'm pretty sure that it would work on your parachute material. Just FYI...I know that doesn't help you with your white tape idea.

A white paint pen available at walmart in the craft section will sort you out.
