10/25/02: No water

My apartment complex has had no water since yesterday afternoon. Supposedly, a major water line has busted, forcing the landlord to turn the water off.

This wouldn't be so bad, except for the fact that I work at a pizza place. I come home reeking of pizza every other day. Last night I had to wash myself using a sponge and bucket of water that I borrowed from work. Because of this, I only kind of smell like pizza, as opposed to knocking people unconcious with my unbearable stench. So, I didn't feel too bad going to class, though I tried to sit apart from people.

This apartment comes with gas and water paid. So, my conspiracy theory is that the landlords just missed their payment and the water company turned the water off. Either way I can't do anything about it but wait.

The other thing that bothers me is that the landlords never actually tell us anything. The only way I ever find anything out is via little notes at the bottom of the stairs. This is pretty lame, I think. I know there are a lot of apartments, but I'd at least like a call or something.

My wife just called the water company, and they said they know nothing about a water line bursting. They are now investigating for us.

I smell a rat.

Ok, the water's back on.

I really think that the landlord turned the water off to save money. I like to think that after Kathy's phone call, the water company gave them a vicious talking to.

At Woodstock, there was no acceptable running water. So from Wednesday morning until Tuesday afternoon, I had no shower.

Man, that Monday though... that was the greatest shower that ever was.

I imagine you're feeling kinda like that now. :)

You've only gone a week without a shower?

Puss.

Unless my arithmetic is off, the second Woodstock *was* when he was 13. The first one was over a decade before he was born.

Maggie's right. I made it all up! :)

No, I was at the third Woodstock, which was from July 12 - 15, 1999. I was 18.

I watched the second one on Pay Per View. :) My parents wouldn't let me go, and probably rightly so. :)

And I'm not saying that a week is some kinda record... but when you're trading sweat with hundreds of other people every band you see (and there were a lot)... and walking around in the sun... and you have about 3 feet of hair... well, let's just say that I got pretty filthy.

Jeff and I, who had gone up together, didn't realize each other's smell the whole way home - we had the windows down, and we both reeked, so we were used to it. But when I got into my house and there was fresh, clean air in my nostrils... good LORD did I reek.

And by the way, I make no claim that either the second or third Woodstock events were as cool as the first. I know, I'm a whippersnapper, but I can appreciate the originality of the first.

And this also confirms I'm an old fart, since I had no idea there had been a *third* Woodstock.

Say what one will, the Philly Folk Festival always has plenty of water. Campers are on their own for *showers* of course....although many do use solar-heated shower bags. Some years there's enough insolation to use them, other years not.

Not by much...August 15-17 1969. There were only four months left in the decade.

Of course, some people hold that The Sixties lasted until Nixon resigned in 1974.
