Teacher Sexual Abuse - again

I believe that we have had this discussion a few times on some individual cases, but this story has some background.

This is not a new issue. I couldn't successfully fact check this, but I seem to remember hearing or reading about an English headmaster in the 18th or 19th century who was dismissed and then reinstated for sexual abuse. It seems that they considered him the best man for the job despite his problem.

From here

Sexual misconduct plagues U.S. schools, AP reports

Quote:
(AP) -- A young teacher in Iowa sheepishly admits that he fondled a fifth-grader's breast. But he doesn't lose his teaching license until one persistent victim and her family go public -- 40 years after the first accusation.
Quote:
  • Story Highlights
  • AP: Educators were punished in 2,500 sex cases from bizarre to sadistic
  • Accused are overwhelmingly male, often popular, recognized for excellence
  • Quiet punishments allow many violators move on to other schools
  • One in 10 victimized children reports sexual abuse, say academic studies

Teachers are mostly female. Statistically, it's still entirely possible that a higher percentage of male teachers turn out to be predators than female teachers do...

I read the article and I don't see where it says anything about the gender of the victims (children). The cases stated involve young girls.

Here they make a point that the female and male victims are treated differently.

Quote:
In the cases where the victim's gender was clear, the large proportion were female. Almost nine out of 10 of the offenders were male.

Again

This is really a two-fer. It's a former student's reminiscence in response to a recent scandal. The former student has his affair with his 'gym mistress' when he was 19 and still in public school.

The affair being responded to involves a female teacher and a 15-year-old boy. And of course the teacher is pretty attractive and looks like some actress whose name I can't remember (or maybe Melissa Etheridge).

BTW, why do the English insist upon putting the word 'mistress' in titles?

Because for them it's just a simple, commonplace title of respect. Much like "Miss" or "Sir" in the US. They would attach no illicit connotation to the word at all.

Because as we all know, the British are not at all perverted or kinky or deviant in any way. (That whole vice anglais thing... a total fabrication.)

Darn you, Steve. I had to look it up.

Quote:
(Redirected from Le vice Anglais)Flagellation or flogging is the act of methodically beating or whipping (Latin flagellum, "whip") the human body. Specialised implements for it include rods, switches, the cat-o-nine-tails and the sjambok. Typically, flogging is imposed on an unwilling subject as a punishment; however, it can also be submitted to willingly, or performed on oneself, in religious or sadomasochistic contexts.
In some circumstances the word "flogging" is used loosely to include any sort of corporal punishment, including birching and caning. However, in British legal terminology, a distinction was drawn (and still is, in one or two colonial territories) between "flogging" (with a cat-o'-nine-tails) and "whipping" (formerly with a whip, but since the early 19th century with a birch). In Britain itself these were both abolished in 1948.
Wow, 1948. So I guess these guys were lucky the ladies were unarmed.

From Oceans Thirteen:

Roman Nagel: [about the Greco] He named it after himself.
Danny Ocean: [confused] Wait. Greco? Roman?
Roman Nagel: You obviously haven't served time in a British boarding school.
