These pictures are not unique either. We've seen hundreds of them, from Mike Yon and other photographers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In fact, this behavior by American soldiers is so common, the enemy has used it for car bomb attacks, that kill and maim children, that gather wherever our soldiers go. Oh, not just Iraq and Afghanistan. Remember Big Sarge's, "Santa Sarge" video from Kosovo? Damn, I can't find it to link, at the moment.

Great pics! too bad the media doesn't see fit to show them as much as they can. Too bad they would rather just tout the death toll every friggin night.

oh look there's Gary Sinise- Operation Iraqi Children. My personal favorite. Soilders angels.org. How to Help Donate items - you can donate items for the children, or make a tax-deductible monetary donation to purchase and ship supplies. Current needs include: Clothing - children's sizes 0 to 20; does not have to be new, but must be clean and in good condition; items for girls should not be suggestive or revealing. School supplies -- especially pencils, pencil sharpeners, rulers, blunt-tip scissors, paper and glue Personal hygiene items -- biggest request is toothbrushes and toothpaste, as many soldiers are teaching dental hygiene to the children; other needed items include shampoo and soap (trial-sized items are great for small hands) Small toys/candy are always welcome. Hey, they're kids! These items help our soldiers to comfort and communicate with them. Send all item donations to: <FONT face=Tahoma size=2>Soldiers' Angels ATTN: Operation Outreach |

Major Bieger cradling dying Farah was an IotD
It was a copyright violation there, but well-intended, and now thanks to a gift from xoB, an original print of it is on the wall leading to my study. In Iraq, the photo had a transformative effect, as the US Soldiers were increasingly seen as the good guys, and the terroristic insurgents were regarded as the ones who blew up children on purpose. In the US, most copyright violations of the photo were used in an anti-war fashion, to illustrate the inhumanity of the conflict. |

Oddly, my brother sent me this link the other day. I don't know why because we never talk military and he dosn't come to this site. There are many military photos. This morning I saw this incredible video of a plane doing some incredible maneuvers.http://www.militarytimes.com/multimedia/ |

Helicopters can't really fly, but they are so ugly the Earth repels them.
Once in the air, they can do tricks, however. But don't mention bacon, 'cause they'll wag their tail so hard they'll hurt themselves.

I already hate flying....and you know that I have to fly on one of those again eventually. Worst ride of my life was on a shithook. Thanks Bruce.

Well, somebody must have mentioned bac.....
Seriously, that was a test they did years back in the development. When they wanted to increase the size of the engines and develop a stronger drive line, they did a bunch of these "what if" tests, intentionaly failing parts to see what effect it would have on the ship. Notice it's tied down inside an earthen berm, because they knew it would fail, just not how. I give you my personal guarantee, the parts I build won't fail, or your money back.
