February 4, 2008: Oil money in politics
Graphic representation of information usually goes well here. The good people at Oil Change International have tallied up which US politicians are getting money from the oil industry, and laid it out here. The site is very interactive: you can see all sorts of details: names of candidates, companies, and if you follow the links, even more. The size of the company's logo indicates how much they have given. The size of the candidate's picture indicates how much they have received, and the thickness of the lines indicate how much each company has given each candidate. Unfortunately, the image doesn't transfer well: the original has all sorts of features which show names for each icon. These were lost in the transfer, so check the original site. Most interesting I think is that Giuliani has (so far) got the most money, and it hasn't done him much good. You can also check the last two elections. No surprises there!

So it all adds up to a couple million bucks. Kind of a pisshole in a snowbank compared to the money that's been gathered by the candidates.

In fairness to the idiot in the above (Bush not xoB), he was/is in the business and certainly has lots of contacts there. Conversely the opponents were running against that specific issue so taking money from them wouldn't have worked out so well for either the donor or the recipient.

Minor problem here.
McCain is not a REP, he's a R-I-N-O. Don't let anybody tell you he's a conservative either. That is complete effing bullshit. Ok. That's all. Thank you for your attention. |

Electable, yes. By the conservative Reps, I very much doubt it.
Does it matter? Not if enough independants vote for him. In a tossup between Hillary and McCain, he only has sliver's worth of advantage. We'll see how things work out here on Tuesday. |

Obama vs McCain...
In my opinion, best options left. I think I'd be relatively happy with either one at this point. (Strange but true)

I've been confused this whole time as to why more people hate Romney than Huckabee. Huckabee is the most similar to Bush, as far as I can see--what is it about Romney that Dems and moderates hate so much?
