Feds funding creationism in schools... help stop it!

http://action.secular.org/dia/organi...aign_KEY=16118

Quote:
Help us stop federal funding earmarked for the Louisiana Family Forum (LFF), a group whose mission is to "persuasively present biblical principles in centers of influence" including public schools. The proposed earmark gives federal money to the LFF to be used for suggesting "improvements" to science education in Louisiana. It would also pay for the LFF to develop and distribute educational materials.

hmm, don't much like the tone of the sample letter, but I agree that writing your congresspeople on issues you support (or re: issues you oppose) is beneficial. Especially for us "nontheists Americans" who lack the political machine that the "theists" do.

It's that last bit that bothers me so much. Religious organizations are so well ... organized. As a result their lobbying power is well beyond their demographic weight...
Yeah, an a voice spoke from the pulpit, unto the congregation, and said: Ye shall write your congressperson, and ye shall write these words... and the masses didst write...

Help these kids get the message!!!Until they learn that it is their fault that Katrina (also intelligently designed) happened because god doesn't like them for one reason or the other...well what can we do? The hurricane was god's wrath because they are sinful little kiddies along with their families......Yes, this should be the feds. first priority in Louisiana. Where can I write in my support? They keep trying to evade responsibility here...........Who is going to help these kids put it together?

*Imagine the most sarcastic voice you have ever heard*
*Multiply that by 10*

Cicero is right on it here. Witness this quote (from http://christiangays.com/humour/hurricanes.shtml , but let me add I'm not Christian and I'm not gay either.)

Quote:
Pat Robertson, founder of the Christian Coalition, recently warned Orlando, Florida, that it was courting natural disaster by allowing gay pride flags to be flown along its streets. "A condition like this will bring about ... earthquakes, tornadoes, and possibly a meteor ... "
But the article then does a brilliant demolition job on this homophobic delusion. They note a negative correlation between per capita density of gay groups and the occurrence of tornadoes, and humourously infer:

Quote:
that means that a high concentration of gay organizations actually protects against tornadoes
But they also check the correlation between tornadoes and religious groups. Jews, Catholics, and Lutherans are off the hook, and even Methodists get off lightly, but it seems...

Quote:
But Baptists and Others (Other Protestants, ED.) share the prize: both groups show a definite correlation with tornado frequency (r = .68, p = .0001). This means that Texas could cut its average of 139 tornadoes per year in half by sending a few hundred thousand Baptists elsewhere...
Yes, correlation does not prove causation. This is humour. But next time someone blames tolerance of gays for natural disasters, hit them where it hurts ... right in the statistics...
