Asda to fine parking cheats

Asda to fine parking cheats

ASDA is to slap a £60 fine on parking cheats at its stores.

The get-tough regime will target shoppers who park in disabled spaces without displaying a blue badge, and parent and child spaces without being accompanied by children.

Asda is thought to be the first business in Britain to fine people missusing parking spots.

The policy is being tried out at its stores in Merseyside, but will be extended across the country.

Paul Hedley, from Asda said: "By using these bays without good reason, the actions of the few have a huge impact on many. Many of us simply don't realise just how hard crossing a car park with shopping can be if walking is a real struggle.

"Similarly, those of us who aren't parents are often surprised to learn that, without wide parking spaces, it's almost impossible to remove a baby's car seat from a car."

Asda says it wants to give the Merseyside trial 12 months 'to assess the impact on seasonal shopping', such as the Christmas and summer periods.

But a spokeswoman said all its stores will become involved during the year.

She added: "Asda is not aiming to catch out unsuspecting motorists, rather we hope the scheme will act as a deterrent."
I think this is great, but how does the store fine someone?

Perhaps they will clamp the cars and charge a £60 release fee?
It's private land after all, and I know some workplace carparks in city centres have signs up to this effect.

Good news, good news though.
I want them to have someone standing at the Pick Up Point as well, and waving off cars which are obviously sat there while someone "just pops in" but I am a self-confessed parking reactionary.

Just wondering (completely off topic), SG, how do you make a pound sign on your keyboard? I'm not well traveled, so in the UK does the pound sign replace the dollar ($) sign (shift 4)? I know I could press alt + num key #s or just look it up in symbols but does it exist on your keyboard?

£ == left alt *and* numeric keypad 1 5 6

But I suspect it's built into her keyboard, and her Windows is localized for the UK.

But, I'm just guessing.

Tis built into our keyboards - shift 3 is £, shift 4 is $
We have to go hunting for the euro, although I expect it will make its way onto the keyboard sometime soon...

I learn something knew every day.
If shift 3 is £....where do you get #? That's US shift 3.
Btw, my girlfriend's computer has the Euro as it's own button (it's a new Acer laptop, but still sweet)!

This post is already number one for a Google search on "ctrl-alt-0144."

What's it do? I'm not typing it.
