1000 Days at Sea

Reid Stowe
Quote:
Born into a family of longtime boat builders and inspired by his father's Air Force career, Reid has been challenging the seas with lengthy voyages since age 19, when he first sailed from Hawaii to New Zealand in 1971. It was during this time that he met and was influenced by France's Bernard Moitessier, the first man to sail nonstop around the world.

are 143 days into their attempt to sail for 1000 days at sea, without making landfall.

They are sailing a schooner Stowe built at his grandfathers NC beachfront cottage, with the help of family and a bunch of hippies, back in the 70s.

Just four days out, they were chased out of, "HAZARDOUS OPERATIONS-SEA TRIAL MISSILEX AND GUNEX" exercise by the US Navy, and fifteen days out they were hit by a freighter which thankfully only tore off the bow sprint.

It's an adventure and not all fun and games. I don't think I would enjoy being cooped up with another person, on a small boat, for 1000 days. Too little space and too much salt.

The daily blog is on the home page but to get to the first 90 days of the voyage, you go from the site map on the home page.
