The lady did protest too much...?
The mother of Madelein McCann, the missing girl whose parents sought an audience with the Pope, is to be named a suspect today by the Portugese police.
When I first heard the reports of her going missing, I thought My God those poor parents, what a nightmare. I felt for them when people were lambasting them for leaving their litle girl alone that night. I thought it was a stupid thing to do, but even good parents can do dumb stuff sometimes. Doesn't mean they deserve their pain. Then I watched them appealing for information and thought there was something a little cookie about their reactions. She in particular seemed to be...I don't know, difficult to define...kind of 'getting off' on the drama and cameras. Then when they were constantly on my television and in my newspaper and eventually when they sought an audience with the Pope, I was thinking "They've done it". I said it to my mum months ago. Now it looks like they might actually be responsible. Their little girl was never abducted, she died in their apartment. How and why and at whose hands is yet to be determined... According to some reports, neighbours in the same apartment block said they heard Maddy crying sometimes for long periods of time whilst the parents were out (that wsn't the only night they 'left' her). The same neighbours heard arguments and shouting and then Maddy crying on another occassion. I think the thing that really, really, made me doubt them though, was when they went to Rome, leaving their two younger children behind. If you had just lost a child to abduction...would you let your two remaining toddlers out of your sight for a second? I am convinced they killed that little girl, either by accident or design. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6982969.stm |
