Presario 2100

This perhaps should be in the humor thread?
Someone brought me a Compaq presario 2100 today. Said the cd-rom wasn't working.
"Because the disk wasn't spinning when he opened the tray!" I'm guessing he has broken some mechanical thing. So I've never opened a laptop before, should I just get him an external box?
This kinda of made my day. When I plug it in, I'll post more. BTW I do this for fun? I just thought I'd would share that with all the folks here.

cd drives do die , but I would test it to see if it si truely working or not ,
if it is working ask them what is wrong with their cup rest ,
if not , cd or dvd drives are not that hard to change on a lap top any more , they are mostly modgular , and cheap

Luck to ya bud !!

Ask him to go and check if his refrigerator light is turned off when the door is closed.

Check to see if Windows recognizes the drive. Worst case, use the remove hardware/install hardware function to reinstall the drive. The driver might have gotten corrupted or 'lost'.
