Stick to the Text

From IEEE Spectrum of May 2007 and from other web sources:
Quote:
Aoccdrnig to rscheearch at Cmabrigde uinervtisy, it deosn’t mttaer waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteres are at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a tatol mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by itslef but the wrod as a wlohe.
So you can say the teacher was wrong to promote good spelling? Only if you have read the quote and used soundbyte reasoning.

Many rules increase comprehension AND can effect how you accomplish an unrelated task later. The world of Fonts is a science that many never realized is so important.

Research suggests that the new Microsoft ClearType font can increase reading speed up to 7%. Some fonts can actually cause the reader to frown. Excellent series of articles in IEEE Spectrum entitled The Technology of Text on the May 2007 issue. We are still working to improve Gutenberg's technology of 400 years ago (as well as Sze Tzu's of 2500 years ago).
