Unreasonable Expectations?

Your views on........Is my boss an unreasonable arse?

For those that dont know, I am business manager for a car dealership.

The owner, mainly sells vehicles and finance....I handle the rest, as well as selling finance. We have 12 staff, which includes my secretary and a delivery manager/stock controller, whose jobs overlaps mine in a few areas.

Today I am home with the 2 boys (ages 4 & 2), as the 4yr old has the flu with a temp and nasty cough.

I've had, 6ish phone calls from work - I accept those, they are genuine and warranted.

My boss makes my secretary call me and TELL me that she has to come babysit the sick kids so I can go into work for a few hours... wtf???

I have spoken to both people about the things that need to be done today, they are the two that handle things when I go away for whatever length of time.

I said No, and am now getting a lot of grief for not going into work and I am starting to feel guilty (which is my boss' uncanny knack).

Fuck the boss. No one ever died with thier last words being, "I wish I'd spent more time at the office".

You're a talented girl. Tell him if he doesn't like it, he can get someone else. There's a labour shortage in Oz at the moment remember.

You should pity him that he will probably never experience the feeling of knowing that he is what his sick child needs most to make them feel better. If he did, he'd never have made the suggestion of having your secretary take your place.

Next time, just don't tell 'em who's sick. Make out like it's you and you're highly contagious. And spotty. And your boobs have deflated.

Your boss sounds like an ass--you have a sick child to take care of, for chrissakes.

probably not. They both mean the same thing. It's just that he's an aussie, so he's an arse not an ass. If he's an ass he's a donkey type thing, and he's worse than a donkey imo.

Absolutely not Duckie. And when you do go back, demand at least a 10% raise.... no bullshit, 10%.

I didn't realise you lot said arse too. It's so much more satifying to say than ass, I find.

I'm with the xo, Ducks. All the attention you're getting clearly says that you're worth more than he's paying you. And it's easy enough to out guilt-trip a guilt-tripper, so lay a big one on him. Tears, the whole bit.

That's just ridiculous. Who is your boss to tell you who should be taking care of your kids, especially when they're sick?
Good for you for standing your ground.

He's an asses arse.
But, more seriously, don't you have legislation that allows you emergency leave to cope with sick children etc? That's what you should be checking out online, to say that you are legally entitled to do what any mother'd be doing anyways.
Even more seriously, he's still an asses arse.

Thanks guys I thought maybe I was being a bit princessy, glad to hear I wasnt.

I'm home again today, so he will be livid

Limey - I am covered by parental leave, so no dramas there, but the guilt trip gets me every time.

I give him 110% and he still makes me feel like I am not pulling my weight.
