K, this is for my fellow Brits: A quick reminder to anyone who hasn't already donated, but spent RedNoseDay with a vague intention to do so in the morning.....The website will still accept donations and so will the High Street banks

So Far (just in case anyone has missed the totals)....£40,236,142 raised! Totally cool.

Wasn't it a good one eh? How bout Tony "I ain't bovvered" Blair? And Doc...I mean David Tennant, as the worlds oldest and sexiest English teacher. @Sundae, did you see the Pegg and Frost bit? *grins* Ridiculously enough, I stayed up until the bitter end, just to watch them:P

Ah well....another Red Nose Day is all finished and the Red Noses have all done their job. Can't believe Comic Relief was 22 years old this year, how mental is that? And Red Nose Day is 19 years old! I feel old *grins* I remember the first one. Since it began, Comic Relief has raised more than £425 million. Of this total, a massive £355 million has been raised through Comic Relief’s 10 Red Nose Days. So, all those wacky stunts, red noses and t-shirts have played their part in something truly wonderful.

So, what all did you guys get up to? Did anyone do anything worth mentioning? Did you dress up, paint your face, or lock you boss in stocks and pelt him with custard pies? Did you have a collection at work? Did your kids drag you out on a sponsered fun run? Any RedNose Mayhem you wish to share?

Mugabe must be rubbing his hands. I'll bet he's got someone drawing up plans for another wing on his palace already.

Trouble is after a couple of hours that'd be worth about 2p in Zimbabwe currency. It's a shame Zimbabwe doesn't have any oil....

Seems that at least the RND money gets to help those it's meant to - I have to wonder what the hell is going on when I hear the news that nearly all the millions that was collected for the Tsunami victims still hasn't been distributed or put to good use.

I find it difficult to get caught up in RND myself but for those that do then they certainly see the fruits of their contributions more clearly than in a lot of other intiatives.

As far as I know, the money doesn't usually go to governments it goes to individual projects (though in some cases, such as the Tanzanian projects, they work with the government.)

There are clear and manageable objectives with these projects, such as attempts to halve the number of infants who die of malaria in a particular region, by supplying mosquito nets, medical supplies and additional community training on how to recognise danger signs sooner. The projects that benefit are in Africa and the UK, as well, so it isn't just a bunch of well meaning white westerners trying to sort out Africa's problems. For instance, one project provides respite for full-time carers, allowing them to have a break and a day out somewhere nice whilst their loved ones are looked after by someone else. Another provides specialist addiction counselling. But these are all existing projects which Comic Relief seek to help.

It's pretty much the only large charity that I am not utterly cynical about.

I was too wrapped up in my own life this year to make much of a contribution. The previous 2 RNDs I've organised events and activities at work, raising £300-£400 each time. This year I wasn't even at work for the event, so I just bought a nose and various RND branded items as I saw them (toilet paper, wine, cakes -it's hardly a stretch is it?!)

I watched *almost* the whole show too. Cheeky cheeky monkeys to trail the divine Pegg from the beginning of the show when he wasn't on until 03.05. I gave up at about 03.50 as I was working in the shop on Saturday

How great was Tony Blair? No comment on him re his day job, but respec' for pulling that off so well. And the Nan Deal or No Deal sketch had me laughing out loud (my laughter is usually in the head not the belly on RND).

The only bit I didn't watch was the Jonathan Ross Little Britain sketch. I just can't find vomiting anything other than distressing. I even have to speedread posts which use the vomit smiley because it makes me queasy.

And I cried my eyes out. Of course. I'm afraid I'm really shallow - I cry when the celebs cry, not at the actual plight of the people. Ant & Dec got me every time. The other one was a repeat from a previous year (I think) where the little girl in Ethiopia is looking for her sister. That one got me without needing anyone famous in it. Bawled my eyes out and promised myself I'd stop wishing I were dead just because I'm not happy.

I feel slightly guilty not being more involved this time round. 2009 I'll be back to my normal fundraising self I hope.

Yeah, I must admit I didn't do any fundraising this year. With 2 essays due in Friday 12:00 (a minute late and you lose 5% of your marks)I was completely wrapped up in studies (and meetings most evenings too!) but, I bought red nose stuff and made a cc donation. Next time I hope I'll be able to find some time to do something proper.

Sundae, you shouldn't be feeling guilty at not being more involved this time. You do what you can, when you can.

My original post was probably more cynical than it should have been. I'm sure that some of the money is used well, but I can't help feeling that quite a bit of it gets lost along the way. Tony Blair was hilarious by the way.

It's every other year and always on a Friday (as Dana said). As for co-inciding with St. Pat's, that really isn't an event in most of the UK, so even if it did happen on the same day, it wouldn't be a huge deal. But if they did fall on the same day, I bet the noses would be green and three-leaved. Any port in a storm
