Norton has an attitude problem

Lately, everytime I turn on my computer we have to go through this two or three minute harangue about "norton loading parental controls list". This bugs me for a couple of reasons:
1) I've got Norton's parental controls turned OFF, so I really don't give a shit about their "list"
2) It takes way too long to load, a few minutes.
3) Fuck them and the horse they road in on.
4) Why all of a sudden? This is a new thing, I haven't changed any norton settings.

Any ideas?

You could always get McAfee. I think that for the most part, they are on par with anything Norton can do, plus depending on which package you buy, you could even do more.

The thing of it is, my machine came with mcAfee and all my friends rebuked and chastised me greatly, verily, and cetera for having mcaffee and not Norton.

I have just found out that Il Inchelino's sitter is not only a math genius (for true) she is also all computerized. She may help me out/

Why does anyone pay for an antivirus program when Avast is free for home users?

My PC came with McAffee as well, and when it expired I looked around and found good reviews for Avast. Consumer Reports (which is admittedly not a PC magazine) ranked it in the top three or maybe five antivirus programs along with Norton and McAffee. It checks for updates each time you connect to the internet, and new ones seem to come out a couple times a week on average.

I've been using it for almost a year on my home PC, and have no symptoms of virus problems.
