Online ordering horseshit

Last month I ordered a therometer form Poleder online. Below is what happened.
Hello
I placed an order with you'll on the 2/23/06. Number 1140713799BB.
This was debited from my account on the 2/25/06. It's now the 3/08/06.
I've not had an email telling me there's a problem with this order or in fact if it's been shipped. That's 8 business days that someone is using my money.
If I'm in error in thinking that yours is a badly run business, please set me straight. Before I post what I perceive to be true all around the web.
It looks like to me you have no credit so you have to use my money to stock the item I ordered?

Now that I've got that off my chest, please reply.
busterb. The reply.
Dear Buster,

Please allow me the opportunity to determine the status of your order. I've requested a tracking number from our warehouse manager. I should have it by mid day tomorrow. I would think that the package should be close to
arriving on your doorstep. I'll find out and relay to you.

Thank you for your patience.
Chris

Well thanks for your prompt reply yesterday, didn't get one today. My order came today, and just as I thought. It was shipped from Polder, inc in New York. Which doesn't add up to the gourmet kitchen in the state of FL. Which tells me that you used my money to buy the item. So be assured I'll do all I can to help you in your endeavors in business. buster
I have no problems with most store front web sites. In fact I'm about to order from zoomfly, newegg and superwarehouse.
But it burns my donkey to use my damn money to front a micky mouse business. And to quote @#$%ing hell

I think this is a pretty common practice these days. Especially for places that have a big selection, they can cut costs significantly by not stocking and drop shipping most items.

The ones that irk me are the NY camera outlets that take the order, charge your card the wait awhile and tell you the oversold the item so they are willing to sell you something not as good for the same or more money. They get real pissy when you ask for a refund.

Thanks for clearing this up for me. Well in advance of Christmas I ordered a sweatshirt that should have shipped in 2 days and a month later I had to cancel the order after they got around to letting me know the size was not in stock. Since I saw the item in another company's catalog around the same time, this would explain why they screwed around for so long and then never filled my order. What made it even worse was I ordered a different item on still a different website and never heard from them either until I wrote an angry email. What kind of incompetent system do we have to distribute China's merchandise here anyway????

I found one of those when I was looking up the price of one of the EOD cameras mentioned here. Froogle had a store that was undercutting the others by at least $500. However, when you looked at the comments you found that the store was breaking apart the included items like charger and batteries and pricing them separately. They also forced customers to buy these 'accessories' when the customers did the math and figured they could still come out ahead by buying the camera and shopping for the charger and batteries somewhere else. They also tried bait and switch and held the orders hostage.

Unlike Yahoo, Google does not appear to drop crappy merchants.

I ordered a camera from one of the NY outfits a few years ago... For months I got the "ooops not it stock" message, and then the company just dissapeared. It was too late to dispute the charges on my card by that time.
I had so much crap going on in my life at the time that I just let it go.

Anyway - I'm sorry about your experience with the Polder folks. They make an excellent thermometer! Are you using for BBQing?

The polderonline site states that they're not part of Polder inc. Yes I got it for use in smoker and bbq. But way down in the fine print, it says not to use for that. WTF That's why I bought the damn thing.

That sort of happened to me on ebay with a bare-bones PC setup. I ended up leaving for vacation and emailing them that if my stuff wasn't waiting for me when I got back from the vacation I was going to get my bank to do a chargeback. When I got back I had an email from their lawyers telling me they had filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy and I was listed with the bankruptcy court as one of the creditors. (I never heard from the court but I was successful in getting a credit from my bank.)

I ordered an online "service" expecting instant access at 5:10 central today, no go yet, all I need is the super secret double probation confirmation email, I'm getting pretty cheesed. And no the service isn't porn, porn is free.

It's amazing to me that all of you have had such troubles. It's not that I dont believe your tales of ripoffs and bad service, I've just not had them (yet).

Have I just been lucky? It seems so. Very lucky as it turns out because I change addresses every 6 months or so, have things delivered to the office, the temp address, and places while I'm in transit going here and there. All the while not having any real troubles with ordering or delivery.

Mostly books and mostly from Amazon. Other odd things too though.

No problems. No ripoffs. Rarely need to pick up the God damned telephone.

I've had similar experiences with orders online. I usually stick to big name places these days, as the possible savings I could get from smaller companies is usually far outweighed by the hassle I'm going to have to go through to actually GET the item. Actually, I'm dealing with an order like that right now. Back on the friday before last, I think the 3rd? I ordered a pair of ear 'rings' (They're actually spirals, but whatever) and the site offers 1-2 day shipping. Got charged, then saw that it didn't offer that kind of shipping for that item. I'm still waiting for it, even though it was processed 5 days ago. Come to think of it, it's time for another e-mail to them.

I try to watch out for how they ship, also.
UPS = Fantastic.
USPS = Usually ok
DHL = only once, but first rate
Airborne = 50/50

FedEx = I've got a hundred horror stories.
