Stop the presses! Rho's going back to work!

10 months, 3 unemployment denials and 2 appeal wins (and a third upcoming) later, Rho's agency finally came through with a job that she can work. It's only for 2 weeks, but at least it'll get her out of the house and she'll make a little bit of real money.

I hope to get to the point financially in the next few years where Rho doesn't have to worry about working anymore...where we can run just fine on what I make and what Rho gets in disability. We're getting there now, but not quite yet.

Rho, if you work, does your disability amount get reduced (or can you lose it altogether)?

Congrats on the job -- hope it's rewarding!

She can make like $800 a month without losing her disability.

It works out nicely in the end, b/c Rho just can't do regular full-time work anymore. The last time she tried (12/02-4/03), she missed like 8 days between being sick and having various doctors' appointments.

Cool Rho. Ya gotta do something just to stay connected with the world. I hope it works out well.

Way to go, Rho. When the bucks roll in you can dump that bum.

Part of a conversation we had last night...

syc: "So, how much are you going to make?"

Rho: "You know what, I don't even know...I forgot to ask."

Part of a conversation we had tonight...

syc: "So, did you find out how much you were going to make?"

Rho: "No...I forgot to ask."

Not like it really matters...it's probably in the $8-10/hr range. And even if it's minimum wage, she'll still end up with more than she got from unemployment. Score.

And that's what I'm concerned about more than the money (though we do need the money). Rho was pretty upset when her piece of shit temp agency blocked her unemployment for the 3rd time last week (and for the 3rd time, they blatantly lied about their reason for stopping payment). Although, there was a silver lining in that denial: The agency tried to get out of paying unemployment altogether (as in, never having to pay her UC again ever), but that request was denied by the Commonwealth.

Well, I can't complain. It's actually a temp job that I've done before when we first moved here to Philly at Lenox. Basic data entry, nothing too terribly hard. I found out that they have changed a bit over the last 4 years. They got rid of those god-awful CRT terminals and got some "real" computers (PC's). I think they've also upgraded their system as well. I found that keying in the work seemed to be much easier than the last time I was there.

Only concern is that sitting all day will aggravate the diabetic neuropathy in my legs, but so far, so good.

I wouldn't really be too proud about it, Rho. After all, aren't you just stealing a job from some deserving illegal alien?

They are only deserving if they can master the English language. :p

And they are all in their home country ... it's cheaper for a company to pay for ineffective tech support based in India than it is to pay for ineffective tech support based in the US.

Yeah, it works for tech support because 1st level tech support was always worthless anyway.

Now they're outsourcing computer programming jobs left and right.

I predict a whole bunch of bankruptcies as a result of that, when the products which come out of the outsourcing company turn out to be totally not what was specified. But until then, sucks to be a programmer.
