Hand me downs

Ever heard of freecycle? I thought we might do something like that. Post stuff that you want to give away. 1st come 1st serve. if shipping is involved, the taker pays.....or whatever. just an idea.

I have a 6 yr old that has just grown out of 5 pairs of nice blue jeans (size 5)
--lots of other assorted kids clothes, too.

I also have a digital camera (1.2mp) that sits in a drawer.

We have freecycled here in KC for some time, now. It is an excellent concept and works well.

Freecycle is awesome. Jim I think you'd get more takers there than here, seeing that this group is not as 'local' as a freecycle group would be.

yeah, but....i'd prefer to give stuff to people that I know. freecycle can be a pain in the ass, too.

and UT, no six year old for you.

Pretty much all of my stuff either gets lost or is destroyed by the time I'm willing to part with it. Unless someone wants an electric razor with dead batteries and dull blades...

90% of the stuff I post on freecycle is construction debris (it always gets taken!) and I don't think any of it will ship well. But if any of you want piles and piles of scrap metal, you're welcome to have first dibs.

I wonder if I could roll it up and put it into maybe a 8-inch diameter cardboard tube? That would make it size-manageable, though the sheets are still reasonably heavy.

I've got a 200 foot long roll of thin sheet metal in my kitchen cabinet. Aluminum. Works well for keeping food fresh.

I got a 3'X8' roll of 16 guage copper sheet for $35 from my roofer friend. i made a bunch of little stuff out of it like a switch plate cover, a gladiator sheild for spence, and then i used the rest to cover a little roof I put over my back door.

LJ,
I could use the camera if it has a usb connector. Our little dude is only in 18month old clothes, so the jeans would have to sit on ice for a few years.

We've been cleaning house and each week we take two or three boxes of stuff to goodwill. If there is anything really useful I'll post it here.

My wife's mom (err, my M.I.L. <-- if marriage were outlawed, only outlaws would have inlaws) has a "free table" in the lobby of her apt. bldg. sometimes you can find some great things.

Wife's late father rescued a miniature orange tree from the free table about ten or fifteen years ago. We have it now and I pickle the tiny oranges in vodka and make orange flaovred vodka. They are tart as hell, but have a great orange flavor. Dump them in a 5lb bag of sugar for a few months and you've got candied oranges.
