First the bees, now the acorns
This stuff really freaks me out. If you hear any stories about crazy squirrels . . .

There were plenty of hickory nuts here in the Midwest. Haven't noticed on the acorns, but I'll keep my eyes open now for sure.

First I've heard of it. We have both squirrels and acorns. Not all that many acorns but a lot more than none. And the squirrels seem as hyper as usual but not moreso. And we live just outside DC in Virginia.

Disturbing ... but not quite as disturbing as Bruce's pic!
Seriously, we are trashing this planet and it wouldn't surprise me if this is an unexpected result of something we have done. But on the other hand, I noticed that the article said last year was a bumper year for acorns. That means lots more squirrels. That means that this year, assuming a below-average-but-within-normal-range crop, all the acorns would be promptly consumed by the over-populated squirrels, creating the appearance of none at all. I hope it is something natural and self-correcting like that.

Our 2 oak trees (which are in the region this article is covering) have zero acorns, but the squirrels this year are the fattest I've seen them. I've commented on it a few times to my wife. They ate our jack o lantern. The entire thing. They are finding other food sources.

It will be a problem for the deer as well. That is a good food source when the green is gone.

Best crop in years here. Street in front of house was yellow from crushed acorns

We have not had a problem in the South with lack of acorns.

Too many squirrels here, as always, and there are some acorns - or at least caps and things left. I wonder if some of the negative press about ACORN during the presidential election was somehow responsible?

Maybe they should just open up the season on squirrels and cull them out.

Dazza got chased by a squirrel in Vancouver. He thinks it was hungry.

We're not nuts. Some of us are a bit fruity though.
