Big Oil
Atlantic Refining here in Philly merged with Richfield to be come ARCO the the mid-sixties, but back in 1934 they had an interesting
ad campaign. They mentioned car brands and the improvements being touted by the manufacturers that year. Kind of like, Oh you bought a Chevy, we know about Chevys, our gas will make your Chevy blah blah blah. They also touched on the holidays, and of course made fantastic claims to do everything but cook your supper.

My mother took her cars to the local Richfield station for years, for everything.
The Richfield Building in LA was my favorite, but there seem to be no photographs that do it justice. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:R...ia_(65013).jpg This is a great ad series. "White Flash Plus" sounds like an Owsley Stanley product. |

Our local station in town was an Atlantic station, I should say a garage that sold Atlantic gas. I remember my folks arguing... more like discussing... gas. My mother wanted hi-test in her car and griped when my father filled it with regular. They settled it by doing a test, the hi-test got 4 mpg better than the regular gas.
