Life from a Laboratory

While Americans argued over the politcal agenda; White House lawyers rewriting science - from the Washington Post of 23 Jul 2009:
Quote:
Scientists Breed Mice From Skin Cells in China
In papers published online Thursday by two scientific journals, separate teams of researchers from Beijing and Shanghai reported that they had for the first time created virtual genetic duplicates of mice using skin cells from adult animals that had been coaxed in the laboratory into the equivalent of embryonic stem cells.

It's really not bad. You get used to it. For the record, though, yes people are even assholier than they used to be.

In the future, asshats are made of nerf.

Then you don't have a very active imagination.

Imagine spending 50 years just on exploring Europe.

Imagine works of art that take 400 years to complete.

Imagine being willing to take huge business and career risks to pursue a fulfilling vocation, because if it doesn't work out, the clock will never run out on trying again.

Imagine living 600 years together with someone you love.

Imagine great-great-great-great-great grandchildren.

This part won't work so well. You gotta have people dying to make room for the new ones.

Oh I have a very active imagination smoothmoniker. I just don't get the whole "wanting to live forever" thing. Death is a part of a life. It is the natural cycle. Everything dies, and for human beings to try to change that, I think it makes us LESS human and more artificial. IMO it is all about ego, and fear.

Where would we put all the people if no one died, and people keep procreating? One or the other has to give.

That's why we should be investing more money in space ships.

We need to find another planet.

Wow. Those scientists and mice thought they were the new hottest thing. This thread surely deflated their ego.
