Nope. I think there are still states where the short, piggy-back trailers are still not legal.

That shell petrol tanker arrangement is a fairly common sight out west. There are lots of little towns with hundreds of kms in between, and they all have servos that need fuel, so the road trains do the run.

You should try overtaking one of those suckers. Can be quite a job on a dirt road, but you dont want to sit behind one either. They leave a dust cloud two miles long.

They may say everything's bigger in Texas, but 'they' obviously havent been to Australia.

not much difference between Mack of the USofA and Maschienenfabrik Augsburg Nurnburg of Germany (fnarr-fnarr)

I see what you mean, but Guiness says Mack Titan, and Muddlex says Mack Titan Tri-Drive, which the picture doesn't confirm. The Shell tanker is a Tri-Drive.

Either way, it was an extreme, a record attempt, and doesn't represent the working road trains in Australia, like the Shell tanker does.

There's something weird going on with that first Shell tank. It strikes me that there should be at least one axle under the rear of the first tank. And there are three axles under the front of the tank...

The last two tanks are true trailers riding on dollies, the next tank is a semi riding on three trailing axles of the tractor. Here's another set up, even longer.
