Keeping the Uniqueness

Granted, I realize that the name "sycamore" is a widespread name that is used in many situations. But I have found a band out there that actually goes by the name Sycamore. I've heard of them before, but truth be told, forgot about them until I was playing with "sycamore" on Google tonight. They are a Christian rock band out of Texas apparently...and they seem confined to that area.

From what I gather, they've been around since 1996 or so. Hmmm...I wonder if there is anything I could do legally on this though. As an example, the British alternative group Suede calls themselves the London Suede in the States b/c there is apparently a soul singer of the same name here. The St. Louis alternative group Mesh now goes by Mesh StL, as there is a Swedish band of the same name. There are quite a few people in St. Louis that could attest to my using the name as a band as early as 1993. The only reason I bring this up is b/c of the possible (unlikely, BUT possible) musical/spoken word future of myself as Sycamore. This could be a case of me missing the boat, but it does raise an interesting scenario. (Not to mention, I would NOT want anyone confusing or associating me with a Christian band.)

What say you?

Hire them as backup band members. Think of the advantages, what if the Rolling Stones only had one hell raiser to keep track of? You trail in whenever you want and the the band is always clean and sober.

On their page, they request that you pray for them. Now granted I'm a non-believer, but isn't that kind of... wrong? It's not like they are asking for prayer because they're in a bad way or something.

Nah, nothing wrong with that, helps people keep their focus on what they're trying to do. That said, I've never heard any really enjoyable pop/rock Christian music the message and form seem incompatable, not to mention the fact that their in your face religiosity always seems to collapse in the face of success. In contrast, bluegrass gospel -Alison Krause, Black gospel-Mahalia Jackson, celtic, and classical religious music all work for me.

King's X and Jars of Clay put out some pretty good music, while making it sound "secular." Jars of Clay was a little more obvious, but I would have never imagined that King's X was a Christian band.

I was sooooo tempted to put a message on that band's gbook, calling them hacks, but that would be un-Christian.

I had to go down to Maryland on Friday to renew the tags on my car. I could have went to a location closer to home (about an hour southwest of Philadelphia); however, dham and I had talked about meeting up sometime, and he lives near Washington (about 2 1/2 hours southwest of Philadelphia). I decided to make a day trip of it, so I went to renew my tags in Baltimore and then went down to the DC area. We hung out, went to look at the new iMac, played the X-Box (It's a pretty sweet system), and ate pad gai.

Of course you know...

"All new residents are required to make application for Pennsylvania title and registration of their vehicle(s) within 20 days of entry into the Commonwealth when establishing residency in Pennsylvania."

Admittedly honored more in the breach than the observance. :-)

Jenni's been living with me for 8 months now, and she still has MD tags. My dad was pinging her about getting 'em changed, but we talked to the City of Fairfax, and were informed of a fun little fact: if you're going to school in Virginia, you can keep tags from a different state. Cool! So she legally has MD tags in VA.

I dunno about any loopholes or other fun facts in PA state law, but I'm sure there's something you could use. Until you find it, though, hope the parking police don't notice your car
