Talking Backups & me

state of mind!
Sometimes I wonder about how my thought process works, if indeed it does. I have 2 computers. 1 I use each day and another I try things on. 5 HDDs for a total of 136 GBs. Out of that much I might be using 30GBs, have 4 GBs of things that can't be replaced. So what do I do? I get a 120 GB & a external usb 2 box for bkups. Guess I can copy from the 80 to new 120, then unplug & save.
Then use the ext. box on the junker, because it only has 4 ide channels. Looks like I waste money. My main puter has RAID capabilty, but have never tried to use it.
Guess what I'm trying to say is, "I don't understand all I think I know about back ups and recovery."

What did Patti say? If it ain't broke, break it so you can fix it? I think that's true, because if your box stays up for a long time you forget how to fix it. Perhaps I'm just nutts.

Not as nuts as the people that don't back-up at all.

I am on the other extreme...have only about 80 gig of drive space with about 15 gig of things I don't want to lose (family photos mainly). And I must have 5 sets of DVD backups, many, many sets on CDR backups and some in the hands of family far away (just in case any more of those damn hurricanes sneak up on me again)

I thought about Raid, but when looking for a drive to match my 80 GB. Out of stock, buffer too small, 1 yr. warranty, etc. So I went w/120, 8MB buffer 3 yr. warranty. I also got TrueImage 8. It cloned my 80 w/7 partitions "as is" to the 120 in 7 minutes. With 39.94 GBs unallocated space.
Unplugged the 80 for bkup. Think I'll put a 20 GB in the usb box & make an image of C: & D: on it. That should hoe that row out. So next, "master Photoshop 7"
