Road Trip

well being part time employed via volunteering at the flight school looks like it's going to turn into an adventure. since probably august i've been fueling airplanes, doing odd mechanical work on the planes or whatever else might arise to give mike, the owner, and karen, his wife a break. that and i really enjoy the "work" enough to do it for free. these guys work 7 days a week 365 days a year to keep the doors open. and they work extremely hard. karen more so when mike is flying to africa and back for his "real" job, the airlines, which he does twice a month on an MD-11. anyway, sunday, mike asked me if i could take off of work friday, march 4th and be available all weekend to take the flight schools' suburban and 40' trailer to Los Angeles to pick up a slightly bent cessna 150 that he bought at an auction and haul it back to h-town for him. here's the deal: daily per diem, gas money, hotel, and $100 a day flight credit! hell yeah i'll do it!! i'll leave EARLY march 4th then drive to phoenix, nap in a motel for a little while then go on to LA and mike will meet me at the airport, we load up the plane then i crawl in back and sleep for a while then i take over driving when we get to phoenix and truck it the rest of the way back here. this is going to be without a doubt the longest road trip i've done. yep, it's gonna surpass going to talladega to watch neck car back in the mid 90's. i'm SO looking forward to this!

I love me a road trip!

My grandparents used to live outside of Phoenix so I've driven that route a million times. But my most enjoyable trip yet was when a group of us drove from So. Cal. to New Orleans for Mardi Gras a couple years back. We took our time and drove a week there and 4 days back (camped most of the time to save $). We stayed off of the major highways most of the time too. Backroads were so much more interesting. The best BBQ I've ever had was at a gas station somewhere outside of Austin, TX. It got a little eerie in LA though - lots of creepy people with no teeth - straight out of Deliverence *insert banjos*. Overall, the trip was awesome. Have fun on your trip! Don't forget to bring lots of music and beef jerkey!

Where's your spirit, man. Take a roll of duct tape and fly that puppy home.
