Well, they've beheaded another hostage...

Eugene Armstrong was beheaded today in Iraq. I don't know what to say. I am so sick of this.

I don't get why anyone would voluntarily go over there. I assume these latest three guys were over there doing some kind of work. No amount of money in the world would be enough for me to go that shit hole.

Some of them are people who want to try and help the Iraqi people who are just trying to get on with life and were put into a nasty position by all of the phallus-waving from ALL sides, from the American(-led) forces, the Insurgent forces and some of their own.

Some of them are people who see our government flushing millions...no...billions of dollars into Iraq and head over there for their piece of said juicy, albeit rather stinky, pie.

Some of them are people who are looking to make a name for themselves/their company by going over there, staying there until Iraq miraculously becomes an American Brand Democratic Free Country, then coming back with a legitamate "I/My company helped rebuild Iraq! See those ______ over there? That's my handiwork!" line for future stockholder meetings, advertising and bragging rights AND to have the chance to set up a company base of operations in Iraq for "international business and commerce..." blah blah blah.

And then there are those who just wanna be in the thick of it all. You know...the putzes.

"Juicy Stinky Pie" would be a good name for a rock band (apologies to Dave Barry)

Meh. I'm wrong most of the time, but an opportunity like that only presents itself once in a long while.

When come back, bring (juicy, stinky) pie.

I saw a picture today of a group of American civilians clearing mine fields in Afgahanistan. They were all black. They must of had a white guidance counselor.

You forgot the number one reason. Even truck drivers were being paid by US taxpayers over $100,000 per year just to drive the truck. Private security people were being paid on the order of $150,000+ annually. If I recall correctly, this is all tax free.

Remember what Dick Cheney said. Reagan proved that deficits don't matter. The US government will now pay almost anything to get people to work in Iraq. Still most every reconstruction project has terminated. No amount of money is large enough for many companies to put employees in Iraq.

It comes down to this. If the purpose of a company is to make a profit, then human life has no value. These are the companies that will find someone greedy enough to go work in Iraq.

Precisely what I meant by this one: "Some of them are people who see our government flushing millions...no...billions of dollars into Iraq..."

That $100K/annum salary isn't there because the public wants it to be. There're Federal pawprints all over that arrangement. They have their fingers in it somehow, directly or indirectly.

Indeed. They stuck their fingers into it before they realized what it was and, now that they know, they're looking at everyone else and daring them to laugh.
