Lost in Translation

I did look through the rest of the forums, but I did not see any threads for Lost in Translation. Did anyone see/like this movie? To be quite honest, I thought it was one of the most boring movies ever made. Its true that I have the bias of loving action packed movies, but I can handle some slow or action-less movies, like The Notebook and Sweet Home Alabama. This was just too slow. I almost fell asleep in the theatre. Bill Murray is one of my favorite actors in movies like Scrooged and What about Bob. But I just felt as though EVERYONE was moving at a slow speed. Personally I don't know how the hell it won or was even nominated for an Academy Award. It just may either not be my kind of movie or more of a mature, adult movie than I am used to. Or, like Kill Bill, i just may not understand it.

I don't think I understand it, but I enjoyed it. Not sure why, though.

HM, the way you worded that was pretty funny. There are some people who hate movies because they don't understand them, but they just say that they hate them and they shouldn't have been made. If someone hates a movie because they don't understand, they should just say it, and not say that the movie was just plain bad.

On the subject of inexplicable movies, I've never been able to decide whether I love or hate Zardoz for it's incomprehensibility.

I liked it, but then I like slow moving, thoughtful, existential sorts of films about quirky people.

However, in order to keep myself a balanced person, I also like James Bond, movies with the Governator, The Rock, Vin Diesel, etc.

Read the "quotes" section on the IMDB. It is bizarre, with a capital BIZARRE.

I thought it was a phenomenal film ... so much so that I bought the DVD (you should rent it - the documentary about the making of the film tells sooo much about what the directors were thinking on the set).

Yes, it's very slow moving, but the film is supposed to be, as someone mentioned earlier, thought-provoking and introspective/reflective. The movie bumbles along at the pace of real life - and sometimes when you're somewhere you absolutely do not want to be, moments seem to drag on into eternity.

I will say it's probably more focused on presenting an absolutely stunning cinema-scape than trying to be a mainstream blockbuster (clearly). I feel that a lot of people are exceedingly curious about some cultures, asian ones in particular. To that end, it does a good job of showing the quirky nature of Japanese folks, I think.

Dunno.

I loved the film. It was about desperate, clumsy, sweet human connection- that underground kinda quiet drama.
