Hot Springs
And tepid springs. If you're looking for a hot spring to take a dip, or take foggy porn pics, or build a geothermal business,
the Nooa website has an interactive map to check them out... until the evil who must not be named shuts them down.

Interesting. There's one about a hour from me in some farmer's field. Only 72 degrees though. Might be nice in the winter but still kinda cool then. Actually, it would be perfect for holding a kayak eskimo roll practice session in the winter time.
I know some kayakers practice eskimo rolls near the warm water discharge at nuke plants in the winter. |

Twil and I visited Travertine Hot Springs a couple summers on a road trip through California. It was glorious. And
![]() ![]() Here are a couple pics, as proof it did happen. Welcome to Travertine Hot Springs. Abandon All Cool, Ye Who Enter Here. There's this prominent ... spine at the start of the parking area, it's ... taller than me. I climbed on top. There's a groove in the top! It's a shallow channel filled with a trickle of water. That trickle leads along the very top of the spine, and leads to these pools.

Back on flat ground you can see they've lined the edge of the pool with some nice flat stones making a nice rim, suitable for sitting on when you want to cook only your feet.
The minerals in the water are what accumulate and create the rock formations. They're quite lovely and a little suggestive. The white balance on the camera was set to "Lobster". No, wait, tha's me. And Twil. Everybody say "Hi Twil!" Here's the wellspring of one of those trickles. I said hot. I meant it. I didn't fill this little divot with my Perrier. Think I'm kidding? Think again:

That 180 is probably coming out of the ground and cools to bearable in the pools and trickles. I seen every possible color at different springs, and in yellowstone springs close together would sometimes have different colors.
The ones we swam in Alaska had no color just large warm pools. Either without much mineral content, or we couldn't see the source.

From the map, Canadians are really cold people.
