The Wall Street Journal reports an enterprising woman in Cape Town South Africa spent $130,000 to turn an old building into a 5 star dog hotel.

For as little as 250 rand, or around $17, man can treat his best friend to an evening of luxury at a former nightclub in Cape Town’s colorful Bo-Kaap neighborhood. The tailored experience at this canine castle can include dawn walks along Cape Town’s Atlantic beaches, or an evening climb up the slopes near Table Mountain. More sedentary mutts can watch Animal Planet on screens mounted in the lobby and within each of seven themed suites.
The holidays of Christmas and New Year’s fall during the dog days of summer here, and a preponderance of South Africans are away for much of the festive season. As a result, @Frits is booked near its 100-canine capacity.

On a recent afternoon, two dozen charges scampered across the upper floor of @Frits, seemingly adjusting well. A pair of chocolate and yellow Labradors frolicked with a damp tennis ball as a sweet sea breeze drifted through the room.
Ms. Klue alternated between logging new bookings and petting arriving guests. “I function very well in chaos,” she said. Moments later, Frits, the establishment’s Irish terrier namesake and “chief executive,” peed on the black-and-white tile floor.

It's good the be the King chief executive.

Puns took pre-eminence in naming rooms like the nautically appointed Pupeye the Sailor suite. There is also the palm-tree-wallpapered Jurassic Bark and the brightly lighted Hollywoof. “Puppyrazzi Strictly Prohibited” reads a sign on the latter’s glass door.

She's a smart cookie and it's paying off. People feeling guilty about going away and leaving Fido behind, can assuage that guilt pretty cheaply.

I wonder how often she has to reupholster those couches. Maybe they're secretly vinyl?

The place is pretty new, so probably not yet. But it would be interesting, in say a year from now, how the stuff held up.

Wow. That is luxurious. Dare I say, a little more luxurious than any dog would need it to be?

There's a somewhat less luxurious, but still fairly luxurious pet resort near us. The groomer I take Carrot to is based there. They have two rooms each, one for sleeping and eating,and another for playing.

members of the family staying we have
family sized apartments to cater for them
all to be together.

All apartments are temperature controlled to maintain a pleasant environment no
matter how hot or cold it is outside.

All apartments have piped music and television - just let us know what they like to watch!

The Resort is set in 12 acres of parkland with trout ponds - our guests go out on a one to one 3 times a day & thoroughly enjoy themselves

I love the way they refer to them as guests.
