The Elevator Lady

So, I'm coming back into the office from a smoke on Thursday afternoon, and I see this woman saying to the security guard at the front desk, "I'm not getting on that one."

Not having a clue what she was talking about, I proceeded over to the elevator to go back up to the 2nd floor. As I'm walking into the elevator, the woman says, "What floor are you going to?"

"2," I replied.

"Oh, nevermind," she says.

Then, another woman gets on the elevator, and she too is asked to which floor she is going. When she says 3, the inquisitive woman says "Great!" and hops on the elevator.

From what I caught of the conversation in the elevator, the woman in question is uncomfortable riding in elevators alone. She said she didn't like riding by herself, nor riding with too many others.

Man, that's a hell of a neurosis. And I can empathize with her on the claustrophobia. I have a mild form of it myself, though nothing like her apparent case. I don't like being in tight spaces, but if I have to be, I can deal with it.

Imagine she has an important meeting and has to go to the top floor of a large building, but no one else is going to that floor. And the stairwells are accessible only in emergencies. What would she do then?

Of course, the opportunity to be a fantastic bastard in this case is very high.

"What floor are you going to?"

"12."

"Oh good! I'm going to 5."

Then, you both get in, and just before the elevator doors close, you bolt out of the elevator.

Or...

Same scenario, except you stay on the elevator in this case. You press the button for the second or third floor, but you block the elevator buttons so that she can't see this. Then, when the elevator hits said floor, you bolt.

In general, this is a neurosis that could compromise this woman's ability to function normally in society...particularly if she works in a downtown of a large city. But the potential for abuse makes it downright funny.

Hahaha. That is precious. The idea of Terry bolting out of the elevator has had me chuckling for a good minute now.
