Favorite Horror movie for Halloween?

Got any recommendations for a scary horror film?

I love Cannibal Holocaust!

That was the most horrifying film I ever encountered.
Halloween is a non-event for me as well btw.

I haven't seen Out of Africa. Should I? I reckon Shallow Grave and Breaking the Waves (sssshhhhhh-don't let SN know that I mentioned this. It will upset him again) were in that category for me. The Kite Runner was also pretty yukky in terms of subject matter and if they make a movie of A Thousand Splendid Suns, I don't think I could bear to watch it.

If you want to see a creepy film, see 'Let the Right One In' or the remake,'Let Me In' released this October.

At this stage, I go for campy like The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, or Simpson's Treehouse of Horror. Another one on kids level would be Coraline. I'm a kid at heart these days.

I don't have any other ideas. Where's Elvira when you need her?

I'll put in a vote for Black Christmas (1974), The Last House on the Left (1972), The Hitcher (1986), and When a Stranger Calls (1979). Note that these have all been remade, but I would recommend the originals in every case.

My fave--and you're going to laugh--is the cheesy 80s "Nightbreed." But I also recommend the novella it's based on, "Cabal" by Clive Barker (who is fab)

Sky, Elvira is still active and in character. She released a movie last summer and still does personal appearances. Rumour has it that she's planning something big to enhance her career.

My favorite scary movie was always The Exorcist. I know I know. But it scared me back then and still gives me chills.

Speaking of Elvira, here's an excellent article about her history and plans for the future. She's a very smart lady.

The Exorcist is a film that will never loose its freak factor, that's for sure.

I didn't know Elvira was still being broadcast and I liked the LA Weekly's layout Bruce.

It's amazing what make-up will do.

I first saw "Night of the Living Dead" at a drive in with my wife and a couple of others. When it started in black and white, with unknown actors, we started laughing at it's low budget look. As we watched, I noticed no one was laughing anymore. That was the only movie that caught us off guard.
