Dog found burned in NC park

Quote:
Guilford County, NC -- Animal Control is looking for the person or persons responsible for severely burning a puppy.

The puppy, who is 3 months old, was found by a man in Greenfield Park in the southeastern part of Greensboro on Thursday. Animal Control officers brought the dog to the Guilford County Animal Shelter.

"She's burned over the majority of her head area," explained Marissa Studivent, who works at the shelter. "Her ears are almost completely burned off. She's burned across her back, and she's also burned under her belly."

The wounds were infested with maggots, according to Studivent. The puppy also suffered from a broken jaw and broken teeth.

"She's doing really well and taking it all in stride," said Studivent. The shelter named the puppy Ember. "She's already made it this far. So, were rooting for her."

The shelter is trying to raise money to cover medical expenses for Ember, who is expected to recover from her injuries. She is currently bandaged and on IV fluids. People can donate to Cindy's Fund, which was created to pay for the medical care of severely injured animals. The fund is currently empty.

"Eventually, Ember will need a loving home," added Studivent. "She just wants to lick your fingers, and she wants to get into your lap. She's just a great little dog."

To donate to Cindy's Fund or apply to adopt Ember, contact the Guilford County Animal Shelter at 336-297-5020. Anyone with information about Ember's owner or her injuries is asked to call (336) 641-5990 and ask for an Animal Control Supervisor or Animal Cruelty Investigator.

Here's the story.

The video link on the side of the web page shows the damage.

I hope the find the person responsible and beat them senseless.

That sucks, mebbe you should post that story...in another thread. The reason I know about Ember is because a good friend told me. Often times violence and abuse towards animals leads to or is a sign of abuse/violence towards humans. In addition to that, animals deserve our protection from torture as much as humans do. That poor puppy was beaten (broken jaw), burned, who-knows, and then left for 2 weeks before someone rescued her. She is just as undeserving of that kind of treatment as a human child.

Did this happen before or after Michael Vick got released from prison?

My wife's a big Eagles fan and she's still pissed they put him on the roster.

Understandably, this has affected you deeply because you know the dog. It's a horrible thing to happen to any dog, or human. Are you aware this happens every day... just in this country? A friend of mine is an animal control officer (dog catcher), and tells me about this stuff at least two or three times a month, just in one South Jersey county. Cats seem to be targeted more than dogs, too. It's sickening.

I could never condone uncontrolled violence to any animal, but pet owners bear the ultimate responsibility for their care and control. Most animals don't just appear out of no where in urban settings. The problem begins with the person who originally owned the animal and had ultimate responsibility to control said animal. After that point the individual who did wanton harm to said animal bears a different level of responsibility and deserves punishment. But let's not forget where the problems starts, esp in an urban setting, with the original owners, IMHO they bear the ultimate responsibility.

And then burn them, and finally sent to hell so Cerberus can use him/her as a chew toy.

There is an appalling lack of personal responsibility in the world these days. Everyone is a victim of someone or something and therefore not accountable for their actions. No one who does something fucked up *ever* says, "Yeah, I'm a fuckwit and deserve to pay for my transgressions." It's always "daddy beat me" or "mommy didn't love me" or "I'm a junkie, so I have a disease" or something else that removes the burden of responsibility for antisocial behaviors and places it firmly on the shoulders of - someone else. *Anyone* else.

My faith in humankind is at an all time low.

Sure, I have those moments.
Generally, people suck.

However, there are honest people, and in spite of all the dishonesty I choose to be as honest as I can. I'll get screwed over once or twice or a hundred times, but I live with my own actions. I choose to do better.

I am very aware that this sort of thing happens everyday and is not isolated to this one incident. As you said tho, through proxy, I know this dog.
I live in an area where I've seen animal abuse most of my life. We live outside of proper city limits and its difficult to get the county to take responsibility for anything they don't have to. For years we lived next to a family who raised and fought chickens. A neighbor kept a dalmatian tide to their tree and abandoned it, letting it starve until we noticed and took over. A neighbor kept a puppy tide up until its skin grew around its collar, again until we noticed. I have too many stories like or similar to this. Animal abuse happens in urban areas too I know, but at least there you can call animal control.
I hate animal abuse and it bugs the hell outta me no matter what. Basically I posted the article I did because it ruined a friend's day and therefore ruined mine. Its also a good thing to discuss because its the sorta thing that raises awareness or irritates good people enough to take action.
