Recipe Software
Anybody use any?
I am tired of my scraps of paper and crap in the box I need to sort through to find the recipe I need, so any suggestions would be appreciated. I've googled and looked at choice's picks, but I would rather personal recommendation. ![]() |

does it need to be on your own computer? We use Epicurious.com to store all of ours.

I've looked at countless recipe sites. Most now let you save your favorite recipes in a recipe box. But they all seem limited, and most cannot save the ones you already have or find elsewhere.
So instead of one site, I use a combination of del.icio.us to save all the recipes on the 'Net, and just type the other ones into my computer in word. I'm sure there's actual recipe software you load into your computer--but you'll still probably have to type your favorites in, so it seems a bit useless.

We still have a shoebox with a godawful assembly if index cards, newspaper clippings, web printouts, and package labels. Though the good stuff does tend to float to the top.

The best thing about the recipe box with index cards is that, after many years, each card has little spatterings of that dish stained onto the card! Our recipe card for chicken curry is ... yellow! Our recipe card for whiskey ribs smells like Texas.
It's kind of like a sensory appetizer to get you going at the start of the cooking process.

I actually downloaded the trial version of that last nite, Radar.
So far, I am liking it a lot. I entered about a dozen recipes last nite and it seems like it will do the job. I did actually have cook'n, but its a bitch of a thing to use. |

I like how both the macgourmet software and the livingcookbook software give you nutritional info, do shopping lists, and an inventory of your food. The only thing I wish it could do, is use your inventory to suggest meals that you can make with what you've already got. I've seen bartending software that does this. You punch in all of the alcohol and mixers you've got and it makes a list of what you can make.

so what's the advantage of that livingcookbook software over--
--your recipe box --saving recipes as favorites --typing in your favorites granted, it's only $30, so it might be worth it. But do I need another application on my 'puter for this?

I find alot of computer organizing and whatnot to be too time consuming. I get almost every recipe I use online and print it out, hole punch it and stick it in a binder with home-made construction paper dividers. it is falling apart and filling up too fast, but it works for now.
Somewhat off topic - Has anyone ever checked out Hillbilly Housewife? Last year, when I quit working we tried out the $45 a week emergency menu and it produced more food than our family of 5 could eat. I still use a lot of the recipes from the site. Just wondering. |
