There should never be a 'war' on anything. We should welcome and be one with the moment. *zengirl*

Anybody who thinks what the US has been doing about drugs has actually helped, is, well, smoking something.

Hey, it's working at least as well as Prohibition did! Oh, never mind.

Interesting though, that the Dutch seem to have accepted the path from soft drugs to hard, whereas cannabis law reformers in this country vehemently deny it exists.

As an ex smoker that didn't progress to hard drug addiction, I have always denied it too. But I have to admit I place more credance on the connection if it comes from der Nederlands than from British (or American) right wing politicians.

Of course you're 'more likely' to do hard drugs if you've done soft drugs first, but just because you smoke pot doesn't mean you're definitely going to try doing heroin or other hard drugs.

If you have a drink you're more likely to get drunk than someone who doesn't, but not everyone who drinks gets drunk, and not everyone who drinks gets loaded every time. And not everyone who gets drunk beats their spouse either. And not everyone who gets drunk once then gets drunk every night.

There are variables, and everyone's different and makes different choices. Sure you'd be more likely to do hard drugs after soft drugs, but it doesn't mean you will.

Not everyone who beats their spouse is drunk, come to that.

The professional abstainer's real point is that this pitfall is, after all, avoidable.

I've always thought that the 'gateway' to hard drugs from soft is more social than biological. Duh...you have to meet a drug dealer to buy pot. If s/he's got something else, you're more likely to try it. Especially if s/he gives you a deal on a package.

Yeah, most dealers will offer you a drug Happy Meal. You get three joints with your choice of grape or cinnamon rolling papers, and a small side of coke.
