How does your election look?

PA 10th
This is a hardcore GOP district, but even here Rep. Sherwood (R) might be in trouble. Interestingly, its a sex scandal here as well but just an old fashioned hetero one layered on the disatisfaction with Bush. Statewide Santorum played the right wing scold too many times for PA voters so he's in trouble. Despite spectacular name recognition, Swann doesn't seem to be getting any traction, he should have waited for the Dems to get on our nerves the way the Reps have. Our state rep Tina Pickett (R) will be fine because everybody knows and likes her.

PA-US 7th
20-year incumbent and Boeing buddy Curt Weldon (R) is threatened by upstart Navy Vice-Adm. (Ret.) Joe Sestak (D). The race is considered a dead heat and is one of the high-profile congressional seats. This is the hardest pick for me because Weldon has been fierce on the GWoT but is also a bit of a loose cannon and has many votes I disagree with.

Republican incumbent senator George Allen was a shoe-in against republican-in-democrat's-clothing challenger Jim Webb. Then George Allen made some stupid snide somewhat racist remarks on camera. That changed the momentum. Now more racial allegations are coming out against him. Poor George just can't seem to get this thing back on track.

Yesterday I saw a George Allen sign in a median strip with a handmade sign saying "is a racist" stuck in the ground right next to it. It doesn't look too good for him.

All the repubican ads I've been seeing are about taxes - trying to appeal to the old stereotype of repubicans. I think with all the other shit that's going down that's that tactic isn't going to fly. Taxes wouldn't have to be so high if federal spending wasn't being sucked up by the war, tax cuts on the rich, scandals, corporate wefare, and the rest of that crap. Curt himself has dumped huge quantities of tax money into the Osprey, with little to show.

He's your basic spend-and-don't-tax Republican.

Locally, we've got the Minnesota 5th, which looks like it's going to produce the first Muslim Representative, ever, Keith Ellison (the race is his to lose). The Senate race is between Mark Kennedy (essentially a party-line walker) and Amy Klobuchar, who's been a good state attorney general (I think she's ahead by 20+ points). The Rep. seat that Kennedy is leaving to run for Senator is the 6th, which is a statistical dead heat, though I think the Demcratic candidate, Patty Wetterling (the first person in the country to run Foley related TV ads) will probably pull it out.

In Ohio:

Hoping to gain democratic governor in the form of Ted Strickland. Blackwell is too busy kissing Coulter's ass at Right to Life lynchings, er, I mean gatherings. Taft screwed us over for toooooooooo long; he can live off the profits of his corrupt leadership (coins, et al.) Also, Senator DeWine needs to GO. My ex father-in-law once described DeWine as a little dog in the tall grass, always jumping up to see what everyone else is doing.
I suspect our congressman Boehner will win because of the money that the big wigs in this little pond of a town throw at him...and the ladies think he's SO cute.

Pray for us!

Montezuma County, Colorado is probably not going to make a huge difference in Colorado's over-all election results. There are only around 16,000 registered voters here, about half are registered Republicans, and the other half is split pretty evenly between Democrat and Independent. Incumbent Congressman Roy Salazar (D) is up for re-election, and I think he has a good chance of winning this district because he is an Hispanic farmer from the near-by San Luis Valley. He'll get the vote from Montezuma County because its composed mostly of farmers and ranchers and has a high percentage of Hispanic and Native American voters.

The big topic of conversation around these parts is the unsually wet weather which is playing havoc with the bean harvest. Look for coming higher prices on your pintos, folks.

Montezuma County, over and out.

Outside of potatoes, I can't imagine a cheaper staple than dry beans. I suspect demand won't be supressed much by price. I hope your farmers make it.

I got nothin...

The only election that counts in DC is the Democratic primary, and that was last month. And it doesn't count for much.

Though a friend of my mom's won "Shadow Senator". He had a couple of things going for him: 1) his name was first on the ballot in a completely worthless position, and 2) his name was the same as a fairly popular mayoral candidate who dropped out of the race. Apparently some people thought they were giving the mayoral candidate a consolation vote.

He got more votes than the guy who won the mayoral race.
