OK, as I understand it, this military coup while not exactly politically correct, is considered preferable to the spector of increased hostilities by the Muslim minority in Thailand. The deposed Prime Minister was considered to be too harsh on our Muslim brethern over there. However, the new military dictator, Sondhi, is himself Muslim. He will take a softer, gentler approach and, thus, win the day. If democracy is a casuality, too bad.
So, Condoleeza should convert; organize the military to kick mean old Jr. out of office, and then go to bed with Bin Laden and seduce him away from terrorism with her femine charms. Mission accomplished, the US can then have an election with Diebold voting machines and democracy will be vindicated. Wait a moment. Let me go back and re-read that article again. ![]() |

mmmmm.... the article failed to mention the april elections which Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra declared invalid....
In truth, I know little of Thai politics (save that is the longest-running extant Kingdom) but as I understand it, the army coup is widely supported against a corrrupt regime, and the army has declared it will pass power back to people within a few weeks.

In the dead of night and without firing a shot, Thailand’s military overthrew popularly elected Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra on Tuesday amid mounting criticism that he had undermined democracy.
I know that sometimes my definitions a little wacky, but overall, doesn't staging a coup, declaring martial law, and revoking the constitution "undermine democracy?"

Typical case of TIT (This Is Thailand)
The "coup" is widely supported by the population and the King has given it his blessings (which is most important). The Thais are tired of Thaksin filling his own pocket. Alone the share sales of the national mobile network gave him and his family already $ 1,9 Billion, taxfree. LOS (Land of Smiles) is not to be compared with the usual Western Society. I've travelled there many times the last 20 years and they have their own way to run the country. Not necessarily a bad thing.
