How about a little header?

Note the simpson connector in place of jack studs. Brain fart or wise conservation of materials?

Actually, getting the new framing to mate with the old framing was somewhat of an unholy union. But now my walls are a true 8 inches thick.

Alas, with global warming it may be wasted effort.

Also note the 200amp service and the rakish angle of... is that the meter? And the phone/dsl and two copper ground cables which I had to cut to pass through the sheathing. Man you should have seen the sparks when i cut that 200 amp cable!

Where the hell did my pencil go?

This is all the farther we got today. I have yet to go into the crawl space and repair some mice gnawed wires I saw. I'm going to pretend that all the other wires I didn't see have been completely ignored by the mice.

Yeah, that's it.

Anyway, it's Les Paul for me tomorrow, and a little side to my brother in law's place to look at his roofing project.

Is being a glutton for punishment, being a sinner?
Does the punishment cancel the sin?
You don't need insulation, the glow of smug satisfaction should keep you warm, for a bunch of winters.

I notice the chimney stack is brick, are any of the supporting walls brick/stone or is the whole house timber frame?

Are most houses in the US timber?

The whole house is made of wood, though not technically what we'd call "timber frame". This was "ballon" framed. (technical discussion to follow)

I can't say what most houses in the US are made from since there is an enormous variety of houses iin this country. But I'd bet most typically are wood frame esp. new construction.

ha ha, thanks. I am a glutton for punishment, but I don't think it cancels the sin. I'll be sure to let you know.
