Tom DeLay announces RESIGNATION

Tom DeLay is calling it quits. Unfortunately, the damage is already done. DeLay is in court, fighting charges of using dirty corporate money to influence political campaigns (his cohort Abramoff just got a seventy month sentence). The problem is, if DeLay is found guilty, the campaigns that he rigged will not be overturned. And the Texas campaigns in question gave enough seats to the Reps to force a grossly partisan re-districting plan, in order for the Reps to gain more national seats. You see, this dirty money situation in Texas has influenced politics for everybody. And so DeLay, facing the heat, is resigning. So what? The damage is done. If he goes to jail, who cares? The damage is done. These "powerful" men are disposable, the agenda was still a success.

Plus, his resignation will allow the Republicans to stick some random person with an "R" after his name into the race. DeLay was going to have to fight hard to retain his seat, and could easily have lost. An "R" without DeLay's baggage will have a much easier time.

It's nice that he'll be out of there, but if he manages to avoid jail time he'll just be a fat cat lobbyist or fundie demagogue or both.

Justice DeLayed, etc. etc...

Greed, pure and simple. The rich wanting to be richer, and perfectly willing to sell the birthrights of their countrymen to do it.

Buh bye.
I'm still hoping for criminal conviction. ( A girl can dream...) A couple underlings have turned, and started talking about Abramoff entanglements. Oooh that has to sting. But now Tom, Like Duke, can take his puffy campaign coffer and use it for his legal bills and focus on spitting poison darts at Ronnie Earl.

And I believe that thinking Republicans do care about issues of integrity. I may not agree with the right on many things, but I think graft and corruption is abhorred by honest, good hearted repubulicans, too.

I wish I wasn't so cynical but I doubt if the next clown, uh...I mean duly elected representative, will be an improvement.
Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy he's outta there, but dubious about real change.

I had a dream that alot of Reps were voted out of office. I remember that my distinct reaction was a combination of not caring and being very sad at how little it meant.

I'm not sure, but I think I had the dream the night before I heard the news about DeLay.

Let's hope your dreams come true. It's always good to kick out a corrupt politician, because even if the next one is just as corrupt, it'll take a bit of time for them to get up and running.

On another note, people who contributed to DeLay's campaign are getting what's coming to them. He'll use their cash for his legal fees.

What's even funnier, Happy Monkey, is that his "Legal Defense Fund" is running in the red. They ditched him a long time ago!

Which is why he stayed in the race until he won the primary - now he can dump all the leftover primary money, plus the early general election contributions into his lawyers' wheelbarrows.

And all of the contributors will have to pony up again to fund J. Random Connectedguy (R)'s campaign.

They won't have to: this is freaking Texas we're talking about here, it's a pretty damn red state. The next Republican up to bat is going to win the election anyway. They'll pony up the money because it'll buy them the favors from whoever the elected Republican turns out to be.

Right, but they thought they had already done that. Now they'll have to do it again.
