Frida Kahlo's wardrobe

Check out this on a book with pics of Kahlo's clothing and personal effects which were unsealed from her house after 50 years, at Diego Rivera's request.

Sure looks interesting! I need to stop buying books though. Or at least one I can give up for this . . . But I'm fascinated by personal adornment as cultural messenger.

it says she wore skirts to cover up her polio-affected legs. I'd be interested in learning more about her style, because if I remember, she was an aristocrat turned commie who dressed like a peasant for political purposes. might be wrong about that though

I never heard she had polio I knew she had been in a very serious bus accident that left her body disfigured.

I believe you're both right. I seem to recall from her biography that she was stricken by polio AND a horrific bus accident.

AND the most fabulous eyebrows ever bestowed upon one human being.

I read a book about her once; said Diego was a monster of a man, a true giant slob and the women couldn't get enough of him. What's with that?

What Rivera's Mr. Toad looks deprived him of was apparently made up by his charm.

This was the guy who took a realistically sculpted, black-glazed terra cotta revolver to the Communist Party meeting at which he resigned from the Communist Party. Pointed it at himself, iirc, then smashed it to shards on the table in front of him. You gotta figure somebody like that is fun at parties. Even communist parties.

Actually, when I saw them, the first thing I thought was "Did they sell Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars back then?".

my first thought was--they're from China, are they for bound feet? 'cause they look kinda small

I'm intrigued by the unsealing of her house and effects after 50 years. It's a treasure--like Al Capone's vault. Only, you know -- with something actually there.
