Bozo protesters (speaking of stupidity)

I was going to post about this even before I saw the stupidity thread!

This is the third day in a row when a small section of a street I drive on to get to work has been blocked by police cars to enable some sort of protest. (For those familiar with that part of Philly, it's the intersection of Woodbine and Wynnefield.)

Now, what irks me is, I don't have a clue what is being protested. At least today the guy doing the protesting was holding his sign up. When I went by yesterday he was talking to one of the cops and the sign was leaning against his leg. The sign was done on a piece of slightly rumpled brown corrugated cardboard with black magic marker, and between the less than ideal contrast and not nearly big enough lettering, I had no clue what the sign said.

Come on, people, if you're going to fscking disrupt traffic to protest some injustice, make sure everybody can tell exactly what it is that's got you hot & bothered.

[edited to crrect the spelling of one of the streets]

Yeah, it's been on the news for a few days. Personally I think if they want to carry signs and walk around fine. If they park their ass in a lawn chair in the middle of the street, kill them. Run over them with a steam roller. OK, OK...then if not mace, club and arrest them the cops at least have the responsibity to clear the street...get them on the sidewalk. This shit causes traffic to be screwed up for blocks around the actual protest which is bad for ambulances, fire trucks, etc, etc.

Umm... so, where can I read about this? I did my usual once-through of the Inquirer yesterday and today and I didn't notice a story.

Don't know. It was on TV while I was doing other things. Something about extending a multi lane road into/through their area. I saw them sitting in their lawn chairs in the road but really didn't care about their cause, once I saw that shit.

Bruce, what you saw might have been about the Woodhaven Road extension. Those protests started last week.

I hadn't heard anything about protestors in Steve's neck of the woods.

The area he referred to is in the city, near 54th and City Avenue.
