Puppy sitting and training for my grand kids
Sunday my daughter in law surprised me by announcing she took the kids clothes shopping and ended up stopping by Pet Smart next door and walking out with a puppy that was up for adoption. This from someone who once told me she would never get a dog because they are too much trouble and make too big a mess.
Pet Smart has adoptions mostly for rescue dogs and not puppies from puppy mills. The dog is a dachshund/blue heeler mix (methinks the mommy was the wiener dog....). Cute puppy as all puppies are, they named it Eve. So on Monday the parents leave for work and the kids all leave for school leaving Eve at home in a kennel. I felt the puppy won't do well for 8 hours of being alone so I went to the rescue and took her to my house. We played, she slept and I took her out a lot so she started learning that peeing outside gets a lot of praise and treats. I took her back into Pet Smart and we picked out lots of little chew toys and a few bags of tiny biscuits for rewards. Back home she ended up sleeping under my desk chair for her nap. At 3PM I took her home to greet the kids as they got home from school. Same for Tuesday and today. I figure I go by their house alot anyway so this is no big deal. I did a pretty good job of training my yellow lab who is now 14 and if I'm going to be around Eve I want her to be a good dog to be with. I forgot how much fun little pups are. |

She's a beaut!
Not being a one-upper because all puppies are equal... this thread applies to us too. J's daughter brought this home, and last weekend we puppy sat. She's Stella. She's a combination Frenchie/Boston. Once J called her "Pearl" by accident and that was it. We could not stop calling her Pearl. She's Black Pearl. |

chris, you have a cute dog there too, and everyone benefits from your talent/dedication/love for the dog and your daughter. early and good socialization counts for *SO MUCH*.

Today I picked her up and we went to my mother in laws retirement complex to drop of some meds and she got to meet a bunch of the staff who were out in the halls. My mother in law who has her own dog loved holding her and getting "sugar" (kisses). Good for the dog to be socialized I think.

Huge kudos Chris, for saving Eve from being another possession, and making her family.

So far I'm having a ball! She played hard and is now fast asleep on my shoes under my desk. Oh and she likes Brahms!

omg look at her puppynapping! I could eat her on a butty!
and yey on socialising her. She'll be much easier around people if she gets lots of good experiences early on. How old is she btw?
