Tragedy

If you pray, or however you express compassion, please keep in mind the families and friends of Bluffton University's baseball team. There was a tragic bus accident; reports so far are 6 dead and 9 injured.

Bluffton is one of our alliances and very close to our community. We all know people who are attending there, who have graduated, who have played sports for them or against them, who work there, etc. It's a terrible tragedy and my heart goes out to our colleagues, the students, the faculty and staff, the families, and their community.

Story here.

Sorry to hear this happened so close to home - both in the literal and metaphorical sense. You know I'm not spiritual myself, but my sympathy to you and those you know who are hurting.

What a horrible and random event.

I heard a report on this terrible incident this morning on the radio. Big love to all the friends and families of those hurt or killed.

Oh Bullitt, do let me know.

We are having a women's basketball tournament here as I type, and before the national anthem our athletic director asked for a moment of silence.

So sad.

I will when I hear from my roommate. We all just left for spring break (he's going to Florida and I'm goin to San Diego) so it might be a little while.
This stuff just sucks.

What a bummer. Even the ones with only bumps and bruises are hurt really bad.....they might not even know it yet, but they are.

It's easy to see how it happened. 5:30am, bookin' along the interstate in the left lane, and taking that left exit ramp without even realizing it, until it was too late.

When they were building I-95 through Philadelphia, for a while I-95 just ended at a tee intersection with a pond across the street. For a half mile before that, there were billboard size signs, hundreds of flashing lights and three sets of 30 ft long "rumble strips" that would almost shake your teeth out.
Even so, trucks that could have started as far away as Florida, buzzing along non-stop, would end up in the pond...fortunately with few fatalities.
That setup in Atlanta is a booby-trap for anyone not familiar with the area. What a horrible shame.

This will be a pall over the school for a good while. I hope the students, families and the community pull together, to help each other through this tragedy.

This is so sad. Flashes me back to the Evansville(?) team that all died in a plane crash. Some of those interchanges around Atlanta are very high.

Update on the tragedy http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/03/30/bus....ap/index.html
My roommates friend was bruised and scraped but not badly hurt. He was flung through the front windshield, from what my roommate heard, when the bus impacted the ground and more or less thrown clear.

I used to live a few miles from that intersection. Since it was completed, there have been over eighty-five accidents there. They are redesigning it - it was a bad idea from the day it was proposed.

The tragedy should never have happened.
