Congrats to him! I was just busting your chops - fishing is fun even when you don't catch anything. Good times.....good times....

Sometimes catching fish is distracting....interupts the naps and space-outs.
Is that your boat? Friends? Rental?

I remember, yeeears ago, fishing with the family down by the lake... I had one of those little snoopy rods like shorty does there, and i just kinda threw it out there... there was a tugging.. then a yanking... and shortly, it took the whole family to keep me and the rod from going in the water. I caught a largemouth bass that I SWEAR was bigger than the rod.

This was so much like my childhood I fought tearing-up a few times, having to watch my father do the things with him I wanted to be doing. Knowing I will not be in those memories with him, not in that way. His first fish caught with him, his first swim in the lake, but at least I was there. I did get to fish with him a few times, showed him how to bait his hook with the worm, at least. This is becoming harder every day as he gets older.
