Redeem your Series E Bond this year - they no longer accrue interest

From http://consumerist.com/2009/12/redee...s-e-bonds.html

A better article is at http://www.bankrate.com/brm/news/sav/20020521a.asp

Series E bonds will no longer accrue interest after 30 years. If you bought them 1974 or later and gave your SSN, you can look them up at http://treasuryhunt.gov/ .

Unless of course, you would like to give the government an interest-free loan.

Actually, the E bonds stopped earning interest in 2005 if I'm reading this correctly. As for me, I'm going to have to check the safety deposit box.

Funny you should mention that, I was going to check into them after the holidays. I was afraid to try and cash them during the last administration, for fear of being targeted as anti-American.

Calm down, it was only a joke.:p

I actually do have some of these that my parents bought for me. I cashed a few in that expired last year and must remember to get the rest of them out soon.

At the risk of being seen as alarmist and anti-American*, I suggest if you have any investments denominated in US$, that you get out ASAP. With the humungous government and national debt you folks are running, inflation and consequent devaluation of the US$ is very likely. This is why gold is at an all time high (appx $1,100 - 1,200 per ounce) and still trending upwards. People are trying to get out of the greenback.

I don't have any suggestions as to what you should invest in, though, except maybe ammo and canned food.

* I think of myself as un-Australian first, and anti-American second.

I have a $25 one from 1976 in my underwear drawer. Man, that
thing must be worth like... $26 or something...

Yeah, but if it's been sitting in your underwear drawer, you might be able to auction it off here for $30.....or more if Bruce and Zen get into a bidding war.

I keep reading this as E Type.
Because the proximity to the word Bond makes me think of Jaguars.

Got any E Types you want to offload for tax purposes, I have a full, clean driving license you know...
