Any DD WRT Gurus Here?

My old Linksys wireless router went all flaky on me, so we bought a new WRT 54GS v7.2 tonight. From what I'm reading, it appears that it can be flashed with a new "mini" version of DD-WRT. Has anyone here done this to this particular router? Any pointers or tips? I'd like to dial up the output on this beast.

Watch it with dialing up the output

If you're going to do that, at least make sure you put heatsinks on the chips inside .

I ran it for a little bit. Quite useful, but watch the heat when amping up your power.

I used DD-WRT on my WRT64G V3.0. I had to install the mini before I could install the full set, but both worked better than the original.

I had to do it in the first place because my router quite seeing the internet gateway after a brownout. Linksys said it was a known issue that was unfixable.

I put the DD-WRT on there and it started working again and had increased functionality.

Funny you should ask. I just bought a new wireless N router (Linksys WRT350N. I picked it because it has an 8MB of flash memory so it can take the largest flash of DD-WRT.

Mine required me to install the mini flash first, and then the mega flash. You are lucky someone installed it for you because it turns a $100 router into a $600-$700 router.

mbpark is correct when he says you should watch out for overheating. I increased the power to my antennas but I made sure not to overdo it. The range on this thing is ridiculous. I can do QoS, I can setup layer 3 VLANs, I have a huge number of features that aren't normally available on this router.

You can check which version you need based on your hardware model and version number.
