With regards to technical ability, Xbox is way better. Better graphics, better audio, more memory for bigger levels. But that's to be expected since it came out a year later.
With regards to number of games available, PS2 has more. With regards to type of game available, Xbox has more in the sports and 1st-/3rd-person shooter genres, while PS2 has more puzzle games, RPGs, and platformers. PS2 is cheaper. Longer-term, the Xbox 2 is scheduled for release next summer, and the PS3 sometime after it. There is disagreement as to whether the Xbox 2 will be able to play Xbox games, and though there's no official word that I've heard, it's reasonable to expect based on Sony's history that the PS3 will be able to play PSOne and 2 games. Most developers will stop making games for older consoles once the newer ones come out. It really all comes down to what you want out of your console. |

If you're a graphics whore (like me), go Xbox. I'm not gonna tell you again that Doom 3 on PC will be a more fulfilling experience than on the Xbox. You're obviously not listening.

Jesus thinks you should get the Xbox, and I guess I agree. It's an excellent system, and if it's gonna cost too much to upgrade the PC, then it's probably worth it. A couple games I would suggest:
SSX3 Crimson Skies Morrowind (also on PC, but you might have problems running it ) Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic |

That's because you're retarded.
Whatever happened to Radio Sycamore? I miss that. Edit: Added smiley. I'm sure Syc knows I'm joking but best be on the safe side. Last edited by perth; 08-11-2004 at 09:19 PM. |

Some of us have more important things to do...like jerking off.
I thoroughly enjoyed doing Radio Sycamore, and no doubt it was the greatest radio show ever created. But I need to figure out a better way to do it--using shoutcast, a better config for my computer, etc. Plus, Rho and I are moving next month, so we've got a lot of shit to do for that. Maybe I can bring it back in late October. |

You should get SSX3. :P
I would say Ninja Gaiden. Halo is good, but I never understood why everyone thought it was a system-seller. Ninja Gaiden is excellent, but diabolically hard. If you haven;t played Splinter Cell and like stealth games, you might give that a try. Syc - Okay, excuse accepted. Keep us posted on when you think you might bring that back. |

PS2 all the way.
-I'm more of an RPG/puzzle game kind of person -The only sports based game I'd ever play is SSX(original, Tricky AND 3) and I have all those for the PS2 -The only shooter (1p or 3p) I'd play is the Mechwarrior based games and I already have that on PC (joystick! Woo!) -All the games from Mircosoft I would want to play come for PC and for cheaper than Xbox games. Mechwarrior is the only Xbox game I'd consider but I already have Mechwarrior4 + Black Knight for PC so...

If I remove games that are either also out for or have a reasonable equivalent on the PC, DC, PS2 and/or GC (all of which I have already), here's the complete list of Xbox games I'd pay to play:
* Panzer Dragoon Orta * Deathrow That's reason enough for me to not even consider adding an Xbox to my collection. |

Since you already have a PS2, I think your question isn't so much, "which is better?" as it is "Is it worth it to buy another console?" The Xbox is down to $149 with no game. If you watch ads in the paper you will often see sombody bundle it with another controller or accessory or something. If that amount of money is something you feel comfortable spending, I know you will enjoy the Xbox. Doom 3 will definitely be better represented on the Xbox than any other console and you would be able to get Halo (now $29.99) and Halo 2 will be out Nov. 9. There's lots of ohter great stuff on the way for the Xbox as well. (FABLE will rock the RPG world.) Plus, you will have the best of both worlds since you've already got the PS2. I gave up on PC gaming because no matter how often I upgraded, I could always bet that the next "must have" game would run like shit. Now if I see a game I want, I can guarantee it will run EXACTLY how the developers designed it to on my xbox. I like that a lot. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything, and my "upgrades" now come about once every five years and cost a hell of a lot less than the latest PC.
