Bush speaks on religious practice...

"My job is to make sure that, as president, people understand that in this country you can worship any way you choose," he said. "You can be a patriot if you don't believe in the Almighty."

Thank-you, George. As a Buddhist, you have no idea how many nights I lay awake worrying about that one.:p

Oh, gee, Mr. President. How very big of you. All of us pagans are so relieved....

And this is one of the reasons I'm not voting for Bush. He can't keep his religion out of his politics.

Dude, he's not talking to you guys. He's talking to your religious extreme rightwing neighbor, who might actually make the retarded assumption that non-christian != patriot.

It's like when he came out after 9-11 reminding everyone not to beat up on some random Arabic-looking person in the grocery store. People are stupid, and sometimes they need a little coaching.

so, just to clarify.

Bush makes a statement about his own religious beliefs, and the ensuing moral convictions that guide his decisions, and he's an ignorant fuckwit who should recuse himself from public life.

Bush makes a statement advocating religious tolerance, and he’s an ignorant fuckwit who should recuse himself from public life.

Look, [han solo imitation] I have no love for the emperor [/han solo imitation], but let’s at least keep the rules the consistent for the duration of the game.

I think they mis-read his quote with their own bias.

W's line is almost the exact opposite of H.W.'s, which was:

"No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."

Oh, come on. My religous extreme rightwing neighbor is busily collecting piles of wood to burn me at the stake even as I type these words. He's not going to pay any attention to our fearful leader on that one.:p
