Tell us about the signed artist! (Er, in another thread...)

Wow sm, are you a label owner or a manager? (Like UT said, post in another thread.)

I've got an production company in Los Angeles. We work with either indie labels or artists themselves to produce small to mid budget albums (under 100k mostly). One of the artists we worked with is a slam poet/hip hop artist making some noise in the new Hollywood poetry scene. He caught the attention of the a/r head for Concord (small jazz label), who loved the album we did for him, and signed him. They were hip to the production, so they signed us to produce the album for him.
In the mean time, Interscope heard the guy, and signed a contract with Concord to handle the marketing and distribution for the project. As far as the indie production thing goes, this is kind of the brass ring; one of your artists getting signed and bringing you along with them.

PS: as an aside, the project promises to be very interesting. My production partner and I are rather on the conservative side, while the artist is more left-leaning. Since the subject matter of his art ventures frequently into the political, we've had several lengthly debates over our opposing views.
Brings up the issue of putting your name on a distributed work that espouses views you don't hold.
