5/11: White Sulphur Springs door

This is the 1.5' thick door to the White Sulphur Springs bunker. The bunker where congress was supposed to live out a nuclear attack. I don't know why Reuters circulated this. I guess it's out of commission now. Either everybody knew about it from all the rumors, or they don't think there will be a need for it.

It was stocked for congress to live in it for 2 months.

Blind faith is a very dangerous thing, especially when placed in Dubya.

I have friends that actually have a pool going as to who would attack first with this whole shield thing, with side bets as to whether it would happen to prevent us from putting it into place, or punching a hole in the shield.

The location was featured in a recent PBS documentary. It was uncovered about 1991 by a Washington Post reporter although it may be long since been known by the Soviets. It was originally constructed in the early 1960 openly as a nuclear fallout shelter - but for the hotel as they were building a new wing. What was know to some hotel employees was its real purpose, since many of those employees were also military staff for the bunker

The bunker required extensive support since it even had to maintain current perscriptions for each Congressman. Originally, the idea was that Congressman would get on a special train to be whisked to this location. Later it was suppose to be busses. Bottom line is that Congressman were never going to get the 100+ miles in less than 15 minutes.

Other recently opened bunkers include one outside London near Cambridge, one in Scotland, and Canada's version. All were built around Cuban Missile crisis time.

Curiously another exists in FL in a now abandoned Coast Guard base. It was for Kennedy when he vacationed in the Kennedy FL compound. Pictures of Kennedy on his Honey Fitz show them docking at this Coast Guard base.

I'm curious, does the door open in or out?

2 Months supply? that all??? and you expect to be able to walk out and survive in a highly radiated 'hot' zone after 2 months? All a bit pie-in-the-sky to me. All face, coz if anyone did shoot off a nuke, most of the wolrd woudl be damaged beyond repair in the following exhange.

Well, they didn't know radiation back then. It was stilla relatively brand-new concept to them, as were it's abilities and effects.

For example, when they did the post-WW2 bomb tests in the Pacific at Bikini Atoll. They dropped a bomb on a bunch of semi-mothballed battleships and submarines of various manufacture. When it was all said and done, there were ships that were burnt but still intact. Naturally, the sailors were sent back on it, ran a hose over the hull to cool it off, then sailed it back home. This was less than 24 hours after the blast.

They just didn't know.

The door opens out. The long hallway behind the guy there is actually a long hallway leading to the area where they'd live and stuff.

The other side of the door is decorated in a very complex pattern that camoflagues the doors existance in the Resort hotel. The long hall is so that defenders can more easily stop anyone attempting to force their way into the shelter.
