Telephone hygiene

I got a request today that put me in mind of the Golgafrinchan telephone sanitizers in The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

Someone is moving to a different office. She asked about her phone and computer. I said, just plug your computer in in the new place. No need to move the phone--they're all the same. We'll reprogram your extension for you. So.. she asked how to clean off the phone. "Sorry?" "Clean it.. you know, because somebody else has been using it & putting it up to their ear." It's an issue I haven't heard raised before. What do you think?
