Dec 14, 2009: 'Gator On 'Gator, Action

It’s Dog eat Dog out there, folks… or in this case 'Gator eat 'Gator.
I’d seen enough wildlife shows to know Mama Alligator has to guard the youngsters, so Daddy 'Gator, and his carousing buddies, won’t eat them.
But I thought when they got to be 7 feet long, all that was behind them.
Not so.

I saw this picture on Bits&Pieces, and followed the link to Stephen Leakier’s wildlife photography site. Wow, he’s got a lot more Gators, plus great bird and animal pictures, too. My personal favorites are the antics of the Ospreys, Steve’s captured so well.
Steve consented to let us also use this image... Thanks Steve.

Anyone that’s tried to photograph wildlife, knows you have to be “vewy vewy quiet”, which means sitting/lying still, for extended periods of time. Since a lot of Steve’s portfolio was shot in southern wetlands (read swamps), I can’t imagine how many mosquitoes, chiggers, and God knows what, have feasted on him. Now that’s literally, suffering for your art.
